Watching from the White Cliffs of Dover an example of …what?
American business historian Robert Sobel liked to talk about the job created by the British government in 1803. They created a post for a man to stand on the white cliffs of Dover with a spyglass and to ring a bell if he saw Napoleon coming. The job continued until 1945.
